The mother of a patient who received care at Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Northeast in Moosic, Pennsylvania, shares how her son’s dramatically different experience helped him transition to living a high-functioning, successful life. In the past, he had been treated with disrespect while at other facilities, but the Geisinger Behavioral Health team was considerate and respectful, seeing him as an individual in need of their help.
“I just wanted to let you know that my son had a pleasant treatment time at your facility.
He has been hospitalized several times in the past 12 years, but this is the very first time he came home with the positive feelings he experienced.
He said that the staff was great…treating patients with real concern and respect. This was totally different than his previous hospital experiences.
He felt that the groups, the activities, a gym, art classes and his doctors, patient advocate and social workers all viewed him as a person who needed help, and they offered it respectfully.
At past facilities he felt like a freak…always harassed or disrespected. But GBHC Northeast was just what he needed to get back to being the high-functioning man he’s been for the past ten years. As his mother and his caretaker, I’d like to just say thank you. Keep up the great work!
